Tie vei tällä kertaa Nosturiin The Hearbursin takia. Alkuun kummastusta herätti miten ulkomaanvieras The Mob ei ollutkaan pääesiintyjä, ratsastettiinko nyt täysin The Heartburnsien viimeisen keikan painolla vai hä? Keikkojen jälkeen järjestys tuntui kuitenkin ihan sopivalta hitaampitempoisen The Mobin jälkeen The Heartburnsin toimiessa kuin saunakiulun viimeiset vedet kerralla kiukaalle heitettynä taaten vielä hyvät löylyt!
SILENT SCREAM
Alkuillasta oli muuta tekemistä ja mitä hieman kuuntelin Silent Screamia ennakkoon ehdin jo olla sitä mieltä ettei ole ihan hirveä menetys jos en vielä heidän aikanaan ehdi paikalle. Ratkaisevat minuutit myöhemmin alkanut keikka tuli kuitenkin nähtyä kokonaisuudessaan ja mieli muuttui jo alussa sillä en todellakaan olisi tunnistanut aiemmin kuuntelemakseni bändiksi. Kappaleista välittyi tosi päällekäyvä, paikoittain hieman jopa agressiivinen tunnelma jota kaikki ne Nosturin valot vain komppasivat vrs jos oltaisi oltu pienemmässä mestassa vähemmin valaisuin. Keikka pysy mielenkiintoisena alusta päräyttävään loppuun asti kun basso paiskattiin lavaan sillä tatsilla, että joku yleisöstä sai keräillä jonkun pikkuosan muukanviemisiksi. Alanko lämmetä enemmän post punk meiningeille...hmm ehkäpä.
THE MOB
The Mobin aloittaessa vartin ilmoitettua soittoaikaa myöhemmin alkuun huolestuttavan väljä Nosturi olikin täyttynyt kuin varkain ja ulkonakin oli kuulemma vielä pitkälti jonoa. Harvemmin tulee nähtyä ns pidemmän linjan bändejä livenä, mutta jälleen kerran kokemus kyllä huokui lavalta. On se hienoa kun keikkaa katsoessa voi vain todeta, että tähän ei voisi lisätä mitään mikä tekisi tästä paremman, sillä on jo niin hyvä. Kesken Witch Hunt -biisin katkennut kitaranremmikään ei hidastanut menoa vaan kappale vedettiin varmoin ottein loppuun. Ajantaju hieman kärsi sillä vaikken tuotantoa tiennyt etukäteen olisi The Mobia voinut vielä parin biisin verran kuunnella lisääkin. Bändi taisi sanoa miten soittomatsku loppuu vain kesken. Noh kaikkea siis kohtuudella. THE HEARTBURNS
Olihan tää nyt ihan hiton kova keikka, mutta jos oli ollut paikalla joko Lepiksen tai Tavastian elokuisilla keikoilla sanomassa heipat ja tää jäi välistä, niin ei sinällänsä menettänyt mitään paitsi "näin nittten vikan keikan jou" pätemiskortin. Noissa kahdessa edeltävässä oli enemmän sitä viimeisen keikan fiilistä yleisön ja bändinkin puolelta. Täällä muutamissa välispiikeissä ei asiaa enää mehusteltu ja encoren, eli sen the vikan biisin, Suicide Missionin jälkeen ei jääty kumartelemaan tai sen kummoisemmin kiittelemään kaikista vuosista yleisöä tahi soittokavereita. Ja tää oli just hyvä näin!

Keikkahan lähti taas viimeistään tutun aloitustrion A Bomb In My Head, Help Me Make it Through the Night & Retard on the Run jälkeen kunnolla käyntiin kun Thinkin' 'Bout You päästettiin valoilleen. Tässä vaiheessa meikän kolttu olikin odotusten mukaisesti puoliksi kaljan peitossa kun rapatessa roiskuu jne. Settilista oli The Hearburns-tuotannon hittikavalkadi kun eipä tän bändin setti oikein muutakaan osaa olla. Yleisössä toistui riemun kohahdukset läpi koko setin aina sen ja sen biisin ollessa vuorossa seuraavana. Huvitti jotkut soittoajan pituutta ihmettelemään jääneet miten ei tää nyt voinu olla tässä vaikka ihan se perus tiukka puolisen tuntiahan siinä taas vierähti.
5.8.2016, Tavastia
On fifty-fifty uudelleen löytää bändi samana vuonna kun sitten päättävät laittaa pillit pussiin. Mukavan erilaiset keikat ehdin kuitenkin The Heartburnsilta nähdä ja kyllä mieltä lämmitti bongata Helsingissä sijaitsevan levykaupan tarjonnasta Fixin' To Die LP:n eka painos, sen värikkäät kannet kun on paljon kivemmat mitä sen uusintapainoksen. Kyseisen levyn ottaessa kierrosta. tattis vaan The Heartburns! -kilu✌ //YYKAAHOOVEE/
Primary reason to attend the gig in Tampere. First band of the bill and they started over one hour after advertised playing time but hey that is Vastavirta for you during mid week. The first time I saw The Achtungs, I got a haunting/creepy vibe from them that I liked very much. This time the set came across as much more fun maybe cos of the lack of Venom shirt. When you combine singer+guitarist Joni Ekman's sound to catchy songs and throw in some guitar parts to show off its handler's talent, what's not to like? Turn out was quite good for a Thursday night and even when The Achtungs is a local band they don't over play in Tampere making their shows something not to be taken granted. Really would have loved to see their set in Turku the next day but I already had to change work shifts around to make it on time here. Maybe I'll have better luck next time as this is a band I'd definitely like to see more often.
DIE RÖTZZ
I had chosen a spot with a bit restricted view to the stage so for a moment I was confused since the singing duties were divided between the guitarist and drummer who I barely saw. When I registered what's going on it was a moment of fuuck yeaaah. This trio provided quite the beat and for me the highlights of the set were when the drummer started to introduce the songs with his hello there deep voice and when some of the songs broke the mold of good punk rock tunes and brought more diversity. Still though towards the end I found my thoughts drifting away from the set and couldn't pick up more stand outs vs. first part and so the title of the best band of the night goes to The Achtungs.
SICK THOUGHTS
Next surprise for me was that the guys from Die Rötzz played a big role in Sick Thoughts as being the background band. Background indeed because this was all about the front man DD Owen. I've seen him perform one song with Pää Kii once and immediately got a very in your face vibe from him when it comes to live setting. At that show he slayed and I wish I could say the same about this one but nope. Now if you were unlucky you could get shattered glass or mic stand to your face as throwing things towards audience was part of the stage antics which came across more like someone having a faked tempter tantrum rather than an artist who is so deep in his songs and just gets carried away. Kinda shame cos some of the songs I listened before +that mentioned guest appearance promised more but when the gap between on record and on stage was this huge, I'm sure I don't need to dig up what Sick Thoughts has been up to or follow what's to come. Surely gets you talking but when the first thing that pops in your mind is how the vocalist rolled on glass than any of the songs ..easy pass.
20.8. Lepakkomies, Helsinki
HAPPY ANIMALS
The guitar driven opening track then joined by the other players already sounded kinda promising so I just hoped the vocals would not ruin it. Didn't need to disappoint as they were just raspy enough and suitable for the music. Happy Animals had about six song set that lasted somewhat over twenty minutes and towards the last few pieces it seemed like the guys were running out of juice for banging through the set with so much intense. Only words exchange with the crowd were how someone has in a hurry to get home. Good thing there was a really straight forward sign at the ticket counter so you could pick up the band's name. I did like them so now it will be interesting to check out if any of the live's rawness can be heard also on recorded versions. Good start to the evening.
DIE RÖTZZ
Presumably Die Rötzz played the same songs as in Tampere but over here things had stepped a notch and this one was a true banger! No signs of not being focused the whole set with a smile on my face and a similar grin spotted worn by many others too. I'm convinced if stage banter awards were handed Die Rötzz vocalist/drummer would be a top contender. When bass all of sudden went all quiet and what could have been an awkward fixing things up silence it was filled with for example turning a question against and audience member when someone asked what country is the band from "I'm from my mother's cunt, how about you" and when the answer was Finland "he said that, he called your country a cunt not me". Set luckily continued and this time high light was when DD Owen handled the drummers' duties and the drummer was the front man for couple of songs. Things had got a bit wild and wet over here and for a moment it felt like watching the gig in a whole another country.

That was fun and set a hard act to follow for the next bands. One of the lines that lived from city to another: sip a beer. Yeah do that and crank up the volume on some Die Rötzz!!
THE HEARTBURNS
At first only mentioned as a surprise performer on the venue's listing and already then I got a feeling who it might be. When the cat was officially out of the bag, Saturday plans were set. Before the band took the stage it was fun to watch how front of the stage just kept getting more and more crammed. It also got my hopes up high that it's 'bout to get crazy. The Heartburns seem to have set few songs that each time start the show. A Bomb In My Head ticked off and majority of people did nothing. Nooo most of the attendees are likely to have had more ears on this band the past years than me, so I trusted the old schools to stir things up. Even Help Me Make It Through the Night was like waiting for the headliner to start until finally Retard On The Run set a whole new course and the pit came alive! This is exactly what I needed at that point and rest of the set went by pogoing around with others. Some crowd surfed a tad bit and songs like Thinkin' 'bout You and set closer Who Told Ya So? got the crazies shouting to the mic when it was pointed towards the action center. If you weren't sweaty as hell after this gig - you were not doing it right.

Alright and at this point due to the technical difficulties during Die Rötzz's set, timetables ran late so I had to leave before Sick Thoughts started. Also likelihood it would be just the same shit in a different setting was so high and therefore most definitely not worth waiting for the later bus. Didn't also want to see Die Rötzz fade to the background after the killer set so I guess this time instrument hiccups worked for my advantage and the night ended on a high note. -kilu ✌ //YYKAAHOOVEE/
When abroad, I dislike day offs (=no gigs to attend) so when I noticed The Heartburns touring I found my preferred escape route: gigs every day! This tour had started two shows prior to these I went to.
16.6. Kunstkeller 027, Fürth
The Heartburns had one support that evening, a duo called Love Sandwich Orchestra. The sandwich I had for breakfast at 5pm had nothing to do with love since I missed good chunk of the band's set as I was too occupied puking in the toilet light at the time when I was supposed to be making my way to the venue. Eventually I just had to drag my sorry ass to the streets besides every step feeling like someone was twisting a knife in my stomach.
Then to the party band Love Sandwich Orchestra consisting of a guitarist and a drummer who both provided vocals and who were -as their album is titled- on a mission to rock. They did ooze hipster vibe thanks to songs that had titles like (When Your Body is Ready) Grow a Mustache. Fun enough to listen to live thanks to the garage sound and songs that mostly carried from one to two minutes. Lyrics had many repetitive parts making it easy to pick 'em along as you go and just joining the sing along whenever if felt like it. I can definitely imagine drunks and those who are there to paaartyyy really having fun at their shows. I also liked the DIY band name banner they used as a stage prop and the confetti shower at one point was definitely something I did not expect to witness that night.
The venue was a small and cozy downstairs cellar with The Heartburns gig posters all around. Before the band started I heard that apparently because of non existent PA system at the first show singer's vocal chords were a bit fucked up already. Set kicked of with A Bomb In My Head followed by both of my favorites Help Me Make It Through the Night and Retard on the Run and it indeed was rough. After these there was a small pause and erm...discussion of some sort if someone else in the band would provide more vocals. No luck with that since guitarist, Lasse, wasn't completely convinced he'd had the skills to play and sing at the same time. "Let's just do this" drummer announced and the band powered through three more songs before vocalist Teemu fucked off the stage leaving the rest of the band as a question mark so what now then.
Waiting game and after a while he came back to carry on the remaining four songs of the set. During the last song's Who told ya so?Who said that life would be easy -line mic was pointed towards crowd, band mates.. any takers - none and after that as quick exit as before. Some in the audience suggested the band would still play some extra without him but that was it. Unfortunate, but shit happens and even when the songs a short and sweet (not the topics of them though) they do require quite some input from the vocalist as well.
17.6. Alte Hackerei, Karlsruhe
Tonight's mission was to be there on time for both of the bands. Yeah..if I only had realized the support I'd never heard of and so much rushed for was actually a DJ set taking place after The Heartburns. Approaching the venue there was no signs of any gig happening anytime soon. "Are you with the band? If not, the sales start in 1h" Stepping out and then when momentarily my phone caught some wifi -I got update on the Facebook event how the starting time had just been moved one hour forward. Dammit. While killing time outside I saw at least 40 rabbits so all good.
Alte Hackerei is located in the very culturally vibrant area of Karlsruhe right next to other music venues. The place was more packed than Kunstkeller and it also seemed more people were more familiar with the band too. My expectations were already met since the gig even went on so whatever followed would be all just bonus. Miraculous overnight recovery is not what had happened but things have taken a better turn for sure. Now it didn't feel like you were kicking a nearly dead horse on the ground to get it moving -rather cheering that good ol' gelding to keep on galloping. Setlist was the same as previous night just this time wihtout the interruptions..except Tasaraha-Antti had some troubles with his guitar and I Need Glue went on with one guitarist down. In Fürth the atmosphere was like walking on pins and needles but now in Karlsruhe had you not known, you would not have guessed the level of struggle of the gig before. The band pulled together and even when not the best you could see from them, still a good gig I reckon considering everything.
But hold onto your seats..unexpectedly, this time an encore! A song I didn't recognize but knew exactly who to ask and based on a shitty few second video clip I sent, Tuomas from Nuoret Sankarit had a prompt reply the song being cover of Reagan Youth's Degenerated. "I've sang that song at least ten times with the band" he added, thanks dude! Last one was Monday Morning Fever. I had secretly hoped Cold Hell Below to be on the set but no luck and I was too chicken shit to say anything knowing the voice troubles. How typical though to discover via YouTube that they did play it next day at the last show of the tour in Stuttgart thanks to a request from the crowd, ha! Fast forward to August and behold it was on the set at their gig in Tavastia.
Definitely 100% better way to spent time than two days in tourist hell Madrid -which was my next destination, more about that later...maybe. -kilu ✌ //YYKAAHOOVEE/
Tänäänkin menee hyvin järkkäs Tavastialle kivan kasan bändejä 2v synttäreidensä kunniaksi! Vaikka elokuussa pitää nyt hieman hiljentää keikoillakäymisvauhtia niin tämä oli selkeä must attend happeninki. KOVA AJO
Missä ikinä liikutkin, jos olet onnistunut näkemään bändin livenä ennen kuin olet törmännyt Kova Ajo graffitteihin/töherryksiin katukuvassa/ojassa niin miten onnistuit siinä? Tre-Hki-Tre väliä tulee sahattua suht tiuhaan ja sillä reitillä altistuin tietämättäni ensimmäisen kerran tälle yhtyeelle. Setti oli jo hyvää vauhtia menossa kun ehdin Tavastialle. En ollut tutustunut Kova Ajoon ennakkoon ja odottelin rämisevää ja nopeeta rokketirollia, mutta bändi rullasi etiä päin kuin punk-versio MC Hammerista! Letkeetä ja hyvin jytisevää musiikkia.
Mutta sitten tulee se mutta. Laulajalla oli ihan liikaa asiaa koko keikan ajan. Näkee miten suu käy mutten kuitenkaan kuule mitään ja muistan tasan yhdestä kappaleesta edes jotain lyriikkaa (takaisin maalle hokema) kun muuten kaikesta sanotusta muodostui vain monotonista plaaplaaplaata. Jännä miten Ydinperheen keikoilla en tuohon ole kiinnittänyt mitään huomiota, sama persoona kun on kuitenkin mikin varressa. Parhaita hetkiä keikalla tarjosi biisien ne kohdat joissa laulua ei ollut mukana (stop! hammertime). Nämä osiot todellakin kelpasi sillä etenkin rymtiryhmä pääsi nyt erityisesti loistamaan. Harvemmin on yhtä aargh/hei tää toimii -splitti seurata keikkaa, joten pelkästään musiikkipuolen takia kyllä ihan mielläni kuitenkin näkisin Kova Ajon uudestaankin.
FLIPPIPUISTO
Keikka lähti käyntiin tiukasti biisillä jonka nimeä en tiedä, mutta joka on startannut muutkin Flippipuisto-keikat. Yllättäen heti perään seurasi youtubesinkkulohkaisu Operaatio Charlie Sheen joka alkaa keikka keikalta hyvällä tapaa olemaan vain yksi ralli muiden joukossa eikä the Flippipuisto biisi. Hetki meni prosessoida että eihän tää nyt voinu olla sama bändi minkä taannoin näki Bar Basessa, mutta olihan se kun tunnistin niitä biisejäkin. Jätkät psyykannu itseään huolella ennen Tavastian korkkausta tai treenikämpillä on viihdytty kesimääräistä enemmän, sillä tämä oli heittämällä paras veto mitä tältä bändiltä olen tähän mennessä nähnyt, hienoa siis havaita kehitystä.
Odottaessa yhtä tiettyä kappaletta asiaa helpotti biisien taustatarinoiden valottaminen lyhykäisesti ennen soittoa sen sijaan että vain tykitellään menemään. Kun asiat esitetään tiiviisti eikä sentään ihan jokaisessa mahdollisessa saumassa, ei keikan flowkaan pääse kärsimään. En kyllä tästä keikasta keksi mitään mieltä kaivertamaan jäänyttä. Eiku joo kitarasta katkeksi kieli, hui kamala eli ihan paska keikka!1 Jos Flippipuisto jatkaa tätä Tavastian rataa niin hyvä hyvä -no pressure guys.
KIVESVETO GO GO
Tässä vaiheessa iltaa porukka oli jo hyvin löytänyt paikalle ja jos katsoikin minkä verran yleisöä oli lavan välittömässä läheisyydessä ennen annettuja soittoaikoja, Kivesveto Go Go oli The Heartburnsin ohella illan odotetuin esiintyjä. Leppoisa on se adjektiivi mihin tiivistäisin tän keikan. Juu ei se meno tanssilattialla, siellä oli vilskettä ja kuhinaa. Yleistunnellmalta vain tuntui kuin kaikki tuntisivat toisensa ja mitäs tässä rupatellessa. En pysynyt kärryillä mille kaikelle setin aikana annettiin aplodit, varmaan vaan jatkuvasti bändille mutta mikäs siinä sillä ois helposti mennyt vaikka pääesiintyjästä sillä tatsilla.
Keikan aloitti Äiti Hei! ja vierailevana tähtenä lavalla oli Pertti Kurikan Nimipäivät yhtyeestä tuttu Kari Aalto. Muita kappaleita joita erittäin hataralla olevalla Kivarit-tietämyksellä tunnistin ja muistan oli ainakin Kirjasto, Asioita tapahtuu, Hypnoottismageettiset katseet josta videota yykaahooveen youtube-kanavalla sekä Tutti Frutti-levyn ihan törkeän koukuttava aloitusbiisi Tajuutsä Jätkä? Plus jotain kymmenen muutakin mutta tosiaan oma kuunteluperehdytys tapahtui suurimmaksi osaksi matkalla tälle keikalle ja siinä ajassa tietty tykästyin eniten niihin wanhempiin julkaisuihin joita ei enää fyysisesti voi haalia ellei oo hemmetisti massia = spotify it is. Yleisöstä kuului paljon biisitoivemylvintää ja ei kyllä hajua tartuttiinko yhteenkään, mutta mitä bändi soittikaan kyllä upposi kansaan kun lähes kaikki kappaleet saivat yhtä innostuneen vastaanoton.
Mulle tämä oli eka Kivari-keikka ja heti piti merkata kalenteriin toiveikkaana pari päivämäärää jolloin ois nastaa päästä ottamaan uusiksi. Sormet ristissä työvuoroja venatessa, on se vaan jännää jos edes yks tärppäis.
THE HEARTBURNS
Näin tän bändin ekaa kertaa vuonna kidneypapu..tai sitten en, sillä en siitä keikasta muista mitään, mutta kyllä The Heartburns sillä klubilla sillon soitti. Kiinnostus heräsi uudestaan viime vuoden puolella kaikkien keikkojen jäädessä kuitenkin muiden juttujen jalkoihin. Tänä vuonna tärppäsi Saksassa (edit: rapsaa sieltä nyt täällä!), tosin ne keikat oli kyllä hieman puolikkaita verrattuna mitä bändillä oli nyt Tavastian lavalla tarjottavana.
Innostuin heti alkuun kun bändi vei kamoja lavalle ja settilista oli paljon pidemmän näköinen mitä viimeksi. Toiveisiini vastattiin kun Cold Hell Below löytyi joukosta. Sitä tosin edelsi spiikki miten se biisi on syy siihen miksi The Heartburns lopettaa...hmm tiedä sitten mistä kulmasta tota pitäisi tulkita mutta ihan sama oli huisia kuulla kyseinen kappale livenä! Samat sanat muille Cold Hell Below seiskalta soitetuille ja tietenkin mun reissuanthemiksi muodostuneelle settivakiolle Retard on the Run.
Setin pituuteenkin saatin lavalta kommenttia "yleensä me soitetaan yksitoista biisiä, mutta nyt kolmetoista!" Yhtä juhlaa siis! Thinkin' 'bout Youn aikana yksi yleisön edustaja ei kirjaimellisesti pysynyt housuissaan (tai missään muissakaan vaatekappaleissa) kiivetessään lavalle ja hetken jo luulin että tässä meinataan stage daivata, mutta nope. Jokainen kokee musiikin eri tavalla ja jos menee tunteisiin niin hienoa että antaa sit vaan estoitta mennä (kunhan ei telo muita).
The Heartburns oli illan paras ja mitä tähän nyt muuta enää lisäämään. Ois kannattanut olla paikalla.
BISHOPS GREEN
Päätin ennen keikkaa, että jos pari ensimmäistä kappaletta ei räjäytä tajuntaa ja saa mua kysymään missä tämä bändi on ollut koko ikäni niin kotimatka alkaa kello yhden bussilla vs aamu neljän hujakoilla.
Pää ei räjähtänyt, mutta saatoin lähteä hyvin mielin menemään sillä Tavastialle jäi taakse hyvältä vaikuttava boogie paikalla olleiden Bishops Greenin ystävien ansiosta. Varmasti lämmitti ensimmäistä kertaa Suomessa keikalla olleen bändin mieltä kaikki ne yhteislauluun yltyneet ja mikrofonin nälkäiset fanit. Eiköhän ollut ihan jees tapa startata Euroopan kiertueen klubikeikat.
Otin videomatskuu ensimmäisestä biisistä, joka olikin sitten kaikista mitäänsanomattomin niistä neljästä-viidestä kipaleesta joiden aikana olin vielä mestoilla. Heti meinaa perässä seurasi just noita sing along kohtia omaavia veisuja, damn! Nice accent though. -kilu ✌ //YYKAAHOOVEE//
